Giving the name of Adam Mickiewicz to the Library became a stimulus to start wide activity of Mickiewicziana.

  • The Library collects and stores the stock of Mickiewicziana.
  • In 2005 this stock contained 831 documents.
  • That is valuable publications, with impressive illustrations, acquired in antique shops and given as a gift. Most of them are in Polish.

The stock of Mickewicziana contains:
 

  • Works of Adam Mickiewicz in the original language (the collected works “Pisma”, Vol. 2-8 (1858), “Dziela” Vol. 1-20 (1929), “Dziela”, Vol. 1-16 (1955), “Dziela”, Vol. 1-14 (1993-1998), etc.);
  • Separate editions of different years the oldest of which is the first edition of the poem “Pan Tadeusz” (Paris, 1834);
  • Translations of works into Lithuanian and other languages (“Diedai ir Grazina” (1899), “Krymo Sonetai” (1909) translated by M. Gustaitis, “Ponas Tadas” (1924) translated by K. Sakenis and A. Valaitis);
  • Computer documents (e.g. 14-hour (12 discs) performance records A. Mickiewicz “Pan Tadeusz, czyli ostatni zajazd na Litwe” (1998); computer file A. Mickiewicz “Wiersze i swiat” (2000).

The stock of Mickiewicziana is marked by special mark “Mickeviciana” and stored in the Art Department.

 

Fostering of the Stock of Mickeviciana

 

  • The Library maintains relations with publishing houses and libraries of Poland. This helps to increase the stock of Mickiewicziana by the works of A. Mickiewicz and the newest publications about the poet. At present the relations with the Museum of Literature in Warsaw and National Library of Poland have been established

  • The following art collection has been compiled: the sculptural portrait of A. Mickiewicz by Erikas Varnas (1961); sculptures in wood “Adomas Mickevicius”, “Marile” (The Muse) by Romas Kvintas (1980); 10 woodcuts on motifs of A. Mickiewicz works by Vytautas Sibaila, etc.

  • The collection of valuable pictures: the triptych “Naugarduko Praeitis” (“The Past of Novogrudok”) by Romas Dalinkevicius (1985, General Reading Room); “Adomas Mickevicius” by V. Antanavicius, the triptych “Is Adomo Mickeviciaus Poezijos Albumu” (“From Adam Mickiewicz Poetry Albums”) by Dalia Kasciunaite (1984); “A. Mickeviciaus Portretas” (“The Portrait of A. Mickiewicz”) by Kestutis Ramonas (1979), “A. Mickevicius” by Kazys Rimtas Tarabilda (1979), “A. Mickeviciaus Namas” (“The House of A. Mickiewicz”) by B. Uogintas (1977), “Adomo Mickeviciaus Portretas” (“The Portrait of Adam Mickiewicz”) (1977), “Adomas Mickevicius ir As” (“Adam Mickiewicz and Me”) (1977) by V. Kisarauskas

  • Other works of art: the triptych of linocuts “A. Mickevicius Tevyneje. Mickevicius Istremtyje. Studentai A. Mickeviciaus Kiemelyje” (“A. Mickiewicz in the Fatherland. Mickiewicz in the Exile. Students in A. Mickiewicz Courtyard”) by V. Tarabildiene (1979) (Catalogue Room , 1st floor); triptychs on the theme of A. Mickiewicz’ “Sonnets of Love” by artists Elvyra Kriauciunaite and Nijole Meskauskaite, “Adomo Mickeviciaus portretas” (“The Portrait of Adam Mickiewicz”) (1980), “Keturios Improvizacijos Adomui Mickeviciui” (“Four Improvisations for Adam Mickiewicz”) by Grazina Didelyte (1979), etc. They adorn different premises of the Library

  • Thematic exhibitions dedicated to A. Mickiewicz are changed twice a year (in the Art Department)

  • Other events and exhibitions in commemoration of anniversaries of A. Mickiewicz’ birth and death
