This department renders professional aid to public libraries of Vilnius county municipalities. The object of aid – public libraries of region and town municipalities (203 libraries):

• 8 municipal public libraries
• 36 urban branches
• 159 rural branches

The employees of the Methodological Department and their assistants, being the best specialists of all the Library departments:

• Analyze and assess the activity of county municipal public libraries, put forward suggestions for its improvement
• Visit county libraries, consult and help those who want to work more efficiently
• Collect and disseminate the newest information and the best work experience of Lithuanian and foreign libraries
• Organize and do scientific research in county libraries
• Organize professional training of county libraries employees: hold conferences, seminars, practical lessons and apply other training measures
• Prepare and read reports, write articles
