Vilnius County Adomas Mickevicius Public Library is the centre of Vilnius county public libraries activity research, coordination, methodological aid, inter-library loan, bibliography, regional studies and information.

Vilnius county is the territory of Eastern and South-Eastern Lithuania embracing 7 municipalities of Vilnius County and 6 municipalities of other counties with a population of 847 954 including Elektrenai, Ignalina,  Salcininkai, Sirvintos, Svencionys, Trakai, Vilnius region and Vilnius city.

8 centralized library systems operate in Vilnius county, i.e. 203 libraries in total:

• 8 public libraries in municipal centres
• 36 urban branches
• 159 rural branches
• 9 mobile service stations
• users at home are attended by 1 283 book-distributors

The stock of county libraries contains 2 481 813 physical units of documents, 119 517 users make use of library services what accounts for approximately 14,2% of population.

There were 1 544 051 visitors in these libraries in 2007. They were issued 3 270 863 physical units of documents.
